Shah announce BJP’s decision to pull out of MDA govt

SHILLONG, FEB 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday announced the decision of the BJP to pull out of the National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government and to go alone in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing an election rally in Tura, Shah said, “Modiji sends various schemes but by the time it reaches Meghalaya, it disappears by the time it reaches state. It fails to reach the public. We want whatever PM Modi sends should reach to the people, for that it is necessary to make BJP stronger. That’s why ahead of the election, we came out of MDA Government and decided to contest solo in all the 60 seats.”

He said that with the immense public support that the BJP is getting, it is certain that the Bharatiya Janata Party will emerge as the single largest party in Meghalaya on the day of election results.

“Respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji wants the development of Meghalaya, wants to make the North East a gateway of development, for this we need your blessings. Modi has visited the Northeast 51 times and has given a new impetus to the development here. After independence, no other Prime Minister of the country has visited the Northeast so many times. This tells how determined our Prime Minister is for the development of the North East.”

Shah also said that due to the negligence of the state government of Meghalaya and their mismanagement, the deficit of the state has increased to about Rs 1849 crore in 2022-23. This has happened only because of corruption. The scale of corruption here is not visible anywhere else in the country.

According to him, the Meghalaya Energy Corporation is on the verge of closure.

The union home minister said according to an RBI report, Meghalaya is the slowest developing state in the country.

“By the time it comes to Meghalaya, all the schemes of Narendra Modi government become invisible. We are determined to make Meghalaya a corruption-free state.”

Stating that the Modi Government has opened a new chapter of peace and security in the North East, he said earlier there were bandhs, blockades, firing, bomb-threats, insurgency and death of youth in the North-East but today there is peace all around in the North-East.

“More than 8,000 members of insurgency groups have surrendered and joined the mainstream after the formation of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre,” he said while appealing to the groups of Meghalaya to come forward and speak to the government and join the development agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Further, Shah said that there has been an increase of almost 150 percent in the central grant to the North-East in the 8 years of the Narendra Modi government, as compared to the 10 years of the UPA government of the Congress. During the UPA government, the North-East used to get only Rs 13,000 crore whereas today it is getting around Rs 22,000 crore.

He added that in the 8 years of the Modi government, about Rs 5,000 crore was spent on the construction of the National Highway in Meghalaya, whereas this much money was not spent even in the 40 years before our government came to power at the Centre.

He said the number of roads built in Meghalaya under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the last 8 years exceed the road construction in the 20 years before that. Compared to 2014, 5 times more optical fiber has been laid in Meghalaya. Our central government has also installed 6,000 new mobile towers in Meghalaya.

In Meghalaya, 21 lakh people have got the benefit of PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, two lakh farmers under PM Kisan Samaan Nidhi, 68,000 poor people under PM Awas Yojana and more than 1.5 lakh poor families under Ujjwala Yojana.

“When our government is formed, we will build a medical college in Garo Hills. The youth here will not have to go abroad for medical studies. This will also increase the facility of nursing. 39 new Eklavya Model Residential Schools have been opened in Meghalaya. We will work to start education in Garo language,” he said while adding “We have decided to set up an IT park in Khasi, Jaintia and Tura regions. We will also create a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) so that the youth here get employment and the area develops. We will make a provision of Rs 100 crore for MSMEs when our government is formed in Meghalaya.”

For the development of North-East, he said respected Prime Minister has started PM-Devine (PM Divine) scheme. For this, a primary allocation of Rs 6,000 crore has been made in the budget.
