Shillong jolted with 6.8 magnitude quake

earthquakeSHILLONG, APR 13: An earthquake measuring 6.8 on Richter scale with its epicenter at Myanmar-Indo border jolted Shillong on Wednesday evening creating panic among the people.

The earthquake intensity, which seismologist termed as moderate, made people to scurry to safer places as houses and building shook.

The earthquake was also felt in Kolkata, Assam and Meghalaya. As per initial report no damages or life or property was reported.

East Khasi hills deputy commissioner PS Dkhar told this website that he has not got any report so far indicating damage to either property or life. He said, “Though the tremor was quite big, but fortunately I have not receives any report of damage either to property or human life.”

Dkhar said that only tomorrow he will be able to brief if there was any damages. He, however, said that he might only get reports of government buildings suffering from crack due to the earthquake.- By Our Reporter
