SHILLONG, AUG 2: The Cabinet today approved the proposal of the personnel department by allowing successful candidates to submit self-declaration information pending police verification for getting job appointment.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting here, chief minister Mukul Sangma said that this is in order to make it simplier and ensure appointment procedure not subjected to long delays.

“We have approved a system wherein the successful candidates can be given appointment by self-attestation or self-declaration of information required to be furnished,” he said.

According to him, at present the recruitment procedure being adopted is that successful candidates need to submit police verification before the appointment process is initiated.

One of the latest such issue that has come to the forefront is pertaining to the delay in the issuing of appointment letters to hundreds of jugalies in the power department leading to ongoing series of protests.

He however the system approved is only interim information so that appointment can be given but is subjected to further submission of complete police verification adding “It’s a simpler format to reduce the delay in the process of appointment.”

But the simplication on this have also come with a rider to candidates when the chief minister further warned that appointment can be cancelled by the appointing authorities “if the interim information provided by the candidates are found to be wrong.”

“The onus of responsibility to provide correct information lies with the incumbent (candidate),” he said while also informing that such simplication in the process of appointment is exempted for serious posts.
