TURA, FEB 16: Police claimed that four Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and two A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) militants surrendered before police in East Garo hills on Monday.

The GNLA miltiants have been identified as Lipsing M Sangma (Phukan), Pilington Ch Marak (Rakcheng), Washing S Sangma (Tapcheng) and Tengson R Marak (Agar). The ASAK militants have been identified as Smarjin G Momin (Tengton) and Limai A Sangma (Katep).

Phukan was the self styled corporal and area commander of Assam unit of GNLA outfit. “Phukan encouraged the ASAK rebels to surrender along with them”, said Davies Marak, East Garo hills SP.

The militants deposited three AK rifles, a Winchester rifle, a pump action shotgun and two 7.65 mm pistols with 96 AK live rounds, ten 577/450 mm live rounds, four 12 bore rounds and three wireless sets.

Police said a former GNLA militant and church leader facilitated the surrender. “We are recording the statement of the surrendered cadres”, Marak added.- From Our Correspondent
