Six years on, HSC waiting inauguration

Nongpoh, Sept 13: Even as Chief Minister Mukul Sangma went on inauguration spree of the newly created districts recently, a Health Sub Centre (HSC) in Tasku village under the Ri-Bhoi district is waiting to be inaugurated and make functional for the last six years.

The construction of HSC at Tasku was completed in 2007 for taking care of the health requirements of the people of ten villages. However after the construction of building, lack of initiative by the state government to make the centre functionally has defeated the purpose of providing health care. The building is now an image of neglect with bushes and jungle all around.

Complaining about this gross neglect, local people told this reporter, “It is meaningless to construct the Health Sub Centre for serving the sick people, as the state government has failed to inaugurate and make the centre functionary after six years of the completion.”

The HSC was schedule to provide primary health care to Umsohpai, Lailad, Umsohma, New Tasku, Old Tasku Umlyngniang,, Mawknor and Mawtamur village. Because of non functional of this HSC the villagers have to travel all the way to Nongpoh or Patharkhmah to get themselves treated even minor disease by travelling on the deplorable road.

Comfort Doloi, a former General Secretary of Western Ri-Bhoi Dorbar, said he was concerned at the plight of the villagers and appealed to the state government to inaugurate the centre and make it functional.- By Our Reporter
