Sms threat to minister: Daw “mentally unstable” but sent to police custody

 

Shillong, Sept 11:  Rimialson Daw, who allegedly sent the threatening sms to urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, has been found to be “mentally unstable” but, nonetheless, he has been remanded to three days police custody.

Daw ,who is a pharmacist at Baghmara Community Health Centre (CHC), was produced in the court Tuesday and the court has remanded him to three days police custody.

Daw was brought to Shillong after he was arrested by the East Khasi hill police from Baghmara.

Additional Superintendent of Police (crime) Vivek Syiem told reporters that on preliminary investigation Daw was found to be “mentally-unstable” and had been a patient of  Sanker hospital. The minister had received the threat sms when she had just returned from Bangalore and Pune where north east based students and people who were studying and working there had become a target of hate smses.

According to Syiem, Daw revealed that the intention of senting the threat message was to vent his ire that when he faced real harassment on visiting Bangalore and Pune nobody protested but when smses based rumour were spread the government took the matter very seriously.

Syiem, however, informed that the police are still investigating the matter. –By Our Reporter
