SPC, CM wore black ribbons to condemn attack on Assam journos

 


Shillong, August 30: The Shillong Press Club (SPC) and Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma  wore black ribbons Thursday to protest against the attack on journalists in Assam.

Sangma condemned the attack on the journalists in Assam and appealed to the authority to ensure that those who were responsible are punished.

SPC president David Laiphlang led a delegation of SPC members to Sangma’s office wherein the latter wore a black ribbon showing solidarity with the journalists protesting against the attack of the Assam journalists who went to cover the riot hit areas.

Sangma said attacking the journalists on duty was an assault on democracy. He said, “If you want a vibrant democracy, you must also have a vibrant media.”

Sangma said that the perpetrators of the crime must be brought to book and punished for attacking the journalists. He said the media must be allowed to grow and do its work so that India’s vibrant democracy will be ensured.-By Our Reporter
