SHILLONG, OCT 12: The body of thirty years old video journalist Kenny Warjri, who died in a tragic road accident on Sunday afternoon, was brought to Shillong on Monday morning from Assam where the accident had taken place.
He along with another photojournalist Walton Lyttan was on their way to Garo hills to cover the GHADC elections when the vehicle they were travelling rammed into a tree as the driver lost control of the wheels..
Lyttan, who also sustained serious injury along with the driver of the hospital, was admitted in Guwahati hospital and it is learnt that his condition now is stable.
Warjri will be buried at Lawmali cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. As soon as the news of the accident leading to the tragic death of the young journalist reached Shillong, the Shillong Press Club (SPC) president David Laitphlang along with other members rushed to Assam to bring the body to Shillong.
Stunned members of the media fraternity met in the Shillong Press Club premises on Monday afternoon to condole the death of what the members described as “young, trustworthy, dedicated and hardworking journalist.”
Grieving members of SPC paid rich tributes to the memory of the young journalist and shared their poignant thoughts on his amiable and humble nature, which had endeared him to all.
Taking note of the fact that Warjri, who tirelessly served the people through his journalistic efforts died while in duty, fellow journalists recalled that he had been a dedicated media person, whose life came to a tragic end at the peak of his career.
Warjri’s sudden and untimely demise has caused a perennial vacuum in the relatively small media family of Shillong in particular and Meghalaya as a whole, the press fraternity felt.
The members of the media fraternity stood in silence as a mark of respect to their departed friend and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
SPC also prayed that Kenny rests in everlasting peace while beseeching the Almighty to grant his wife, parents, siblings and all his loved ones solace at this their most bereaving moment.
Meanwhile the Meghalaya Editors’ & Publishers’ Association had also expressed its profound shock and grief over the sudden demise of Kenny in the road accident in Assam while he was on media duty.
“Late Warjri was an amiable person whose contribution to journalism, especially the electronic media, was outstanding and he was loved and respected by one and all. MEPA conveys its condolence to the bereaved family and prays that God grants them solace at this hour of grief. It also wishes speedy recovery to Walton Lytan, photographer who is presently under treatment for his injuries,” MEPA said in a statement.- By Our Reporter
