SST seize Rs 8.80 lakhs

SHILLONG, FEB 21: The Static Surveillance Team (SST) seized rupees eight lakhs and eighty thousand from three persons on Thursday nights and incidentally all the seizure were made from near Anjalee cinema hall.

The police have launched inquiries in all the three cases.

The SST seized six lakhs rupees from one Shemphang Mukhim of Lawmali metal factory, one lakh, twenty-five thousands from Drim Tyngkan of Raliang village in Jaintia hills and fifty-five thousands from a lady Chai Shylla of Khliehtyrshi of the same district.

Interestingly SST seized the money from the three persons in the same location near Anjalee cinema hall. The police are investigating whether the money carried by the three persons are interconnected.

Police and the SST have upped their surveillance for movement of cash with two days left for the February 23 election.

Security, especially in and around Shillong, have been tightened with checking being conducted at an interval of just one kilometers. The police and the SST are checking with diligence to ensure that the election is conducted in an atmosphere of fairness and fearlessness.

One of the staff of this website who was travelling by a motorbike was stopped at least four times between Polo to Nongrim hill and thoroughly searched. Interestingly, the search was conducted with utmost politeness. By Our Reporter
