‘ST impersonator’

SHILLONG, JULY 22: Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) on Wednesday lodged and FIR seeking action against a person, who allegedly is allegedly impersonating and disguising as ST belonging to Nongrum clan.

One Yunus Nongrum has been impersonating and using the ST title of Nongrum clan and has been cheating the Khasi people particularly the ‘Nongrum Clan’, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said in her FIR submitted to the SP (Crime) on Wednesday.

She alleged, “Neither his (Yunus) mother Jamila Khatoon nor his father Laimia Mo are tribals, yet, he has managed to obtain the title Nongrum.”

By impersonating as ST, Yunus has also managed to obtain an EPIC in the name of Yunus Nongrum which shows his mother as Jamila Nongrum, while his mother has an EPIC in the name of Jamila Khatoon, Kharshiing said while also alleging that Yunus has also managed to get a license for driving from the DTO office, Shillong.

She, therefore,   said, “In the interest of the schedule tribe, I urge the police to investigate into the matter as this is highly unconstitutional.”  She further said the concerned authority should also ensure that action as per law should be taken against Yunus, so that acts are not repeated by others  that might endanger the interests of the schedule tribe.- By Our Reporter
