State EMRI rescue Naga girl

SHILLONG, JULY 16: A distress call from a kidnapped girl in Dimapur, Nagaland who was raped landed in the Emergency Response Centre (ERC) of GVK EMRI – Meghalaya on the Tuesday which in turned helped her rescue by the police.

At around 2:44 am on Tuesday, he GVK EMRI, Meghalaya got the distressed call from the victim who informed that she had being kidnapped by a person know to her. She said the abductor promised to take her home but instead took her to a hotel in Dimapur.

In distress and with no balance in her mobile to inform her parents about the ordeal she was going through, the girl simply dialed 10. Emergency Response Officer (ERO) attendant Alleans Sangma received the distress call and helped the girl to connect with her father through conferencing.

During the conference call the victim disclosed that she was raped by the person who kidnapped her. The ERO immediately inform the police control room, Shillong and they in turn helped in providing their counterpart contact number in Dimapur.

After she had managed to escape from the hotel, the victim spotted an auto rickshaw whereby the ERO asked her to hand over the phone to the auto driver and instructed him to take the victim to the nearest police station.

On enquiry, the Nagaland police informed that the girl has been shifted to East Town police station and the kidnapper has been arrested

All the north eastern states apart from Assam share the same telecom circle, local calls made from the neighboring states which often lands at 108 Meghalaya.- By Our Reporter
