SHILLONG, SEPT 23: The general assembly of the Presbyterian Church of India (PCI) in Meghalaya has condemned the twin suicide attacks on the minority Christian community at the 130-year-old church in Peshwar, Pakistan on Sunday.
In a press communiqué issued here on Monday, PCI Administrative Secretary Rev VL Lauiahranleh said, “We urge the federal and provincial governments in Pakistan to ensure security to places of worship of minority Christians, their institutions as also to initiate confidence building measures with Pakistani citizens but of a different religious persuasion.”
The press communiqué also urged the world community including national governments, Christian organizations, human rights organizations and others to proactively intervene through various measures so that religious minorities in Pakistan will not feel insecure, threatened and isolated.
The death toll on Sunday attack has increased to 85.
The release also urged on those having misgivings against any government whether in Pakistan or in the global community not to take it out on non-Muslims of Pakistan as it is alleged that Ahmed Marwat of the Jundullah wing of Pakistan Taliban has said, “All non-Muslims in Pakistan are target, and they will remain our target as America failed to stop drone strikes in our country.” The communiqué said Christians in Pakistan are also Pakistani citizens and warrant equal treatment and respect as human beings.- By Our Reporter
