TB hospice: Hek allay fears

SHILLONG, NOV 11: Justifying the shifting of the TB hospital  to Umsawli from Jhalupara, Meghalaya health & family welfare minister AL Hek said that people should not so apprehensive about the location as TB hospitals are located in different places all over the country.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Hek said that the TB hospital will be shifted to Umsawli so that the proposed Shillong Medical College and hospital can be constructed in Jhalupara.

Hek said the location of the TB Hospital at Umsawli will be an ideal location and the government is working on the infrastructure of the proposed hospital

“Now we need the power connection, we need the water. We need to have 24×7 water supply in the hospital otherwise the hospital cannot run.” Hek informed. He said that the government will not shift the TB hospital from its present location until and unless the infrastructure at the new location is ready

Earlier, the Dorbar Shnong of Mawpat Umsawli had opposed the proposed shifting of the TB hospital there.  Hek is hoping that the government would be able to construct the hospital within 36 months

The State Government has inked a concessionaire agreement with the Kolkata-based KPC Group for construction of the Shillong Medical College under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) mode.

The proposed 500-bedded Shillong Medical College at Jhalupara, to come up in a 23.8 acre plot of land will cater to over 200,000 patients every year.- By Our Reporter
