Teachers threatened stir

SHILLONG, AUG 16:  The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) has demanded that the state government either invite them for talks before August 20 to discuss about their demands or face agitation. The decision was taken during the general meeting of the teachers’ association on Friday. KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang said, “If we are not called for discussions we will meet on August 21 and chalk out our future strategies.”

The KJDSTA also resolved to support the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM) in their demand for services of teachers. Nongsiang said, “We demand provincialization of services for ad hoc and deficit teachers from lower primary to secondary school teachers.’”He also asked the government to ensure that the teachers’ receive their salary on a time since this is one of the long pending demands. The teachers’ meeting was attended by more than 400 members of the association. – By Our Reporter
