SHILLONG, MAY 15: Caught between the government and the scandalous CMJ University, the students of this particular university- which has been sealed by the state CID after the Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary, who is  the university Visitor, filed an FIR that led to its closure- have appealed to the Meghalaya government to find a way out so that their studies are not affected even as they called on their absconding Chancellor Chandra Mohan Jha to come out of his hiding and clarify the various allegations leveled at the University before May 21.

Addressing a media conference on Wednesday Yanam K accompanied by three others representing the CMJ University students said, “We don’t know where is our Chancellor but want him to come out and clarify on the controversy.”

Even as the students said that soon their examination is schedule and if they do not get to sit for the examination it will affect their academics, the students demanded the appointment of a new chancellor and asked the University to immediately submit the Annual Report to the state government.

Another student Kato V Kinny said, “We urged the Governor to intervene and appoint a new chancellor for the university.” The students had also met the chief secretary to brief him about their plight but said there was no response from his office till now.

Kinny  said, “Now we the helpless students’ are turning our eyes towards the state government to resolve the issue in the interest of the students community”

The students lament after the recent arrests of some of the officials of the university they have been left in a quandary. The students said ,“We are really desperate and don’t know what to do. We became victims of this whole controversy.”

They said they are helpless as their examination is scheduled to be held on May 24.

The University chancellor CM Jha is absconding as the state CID is looking to arrest him after Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary had filed an FIR against the university for duping students as the degrees given by it are not recognized.

Earlier, police had arrested two top officials of the university while Jha and two of his close aides – the director Manjeet Kaur and HR manager Juban Kharpuri – have gone missing.- By Our Reporter
