Thirty shortlisted for Youth Awards

youthSHILLONG, AUG 11:  Thirty youths have been shortlisted for the first ever “Meghalaya Youth Community Awards” and will be judged and felicitated at U Soso Tham auditorium on the International Youth Day on Wednesday. These youth have been selected after a month long process undertaken by Imagenation in collaboration with the Meghalayas Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.

The tagline of the first of its own kind initiative to encourage the youths to bring in the positive changes in the society has been aptly designed as “Dream…Dare …Shine”.

The panel of judges who shortlisted the finalists are Dr. A. K. Nongkynrih, North Eastern Hill University; Clive Dunai, Asst. Director, Sports & Youth Affairs; I. Kharsati, Ex Principal, Pearly Dew School; R. Warjri, Funder President RITI Academy of Arts and Mr. G Sangma, School of Business Studies, North Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus,

The interactive session with these 30 finalists from various fields like entrepreneurship, adventure sports, community leaders, peace, differently-able, youth organization and arts & crafts was held at the Asian Confluence in the presence of JR Marak, Deputy Director, Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs.

The topics discussed on the day were interaction on youth & governance, youth empowerment, youth & climate change and youth & development by the eminent speakers like Dr. Jemino Mawthoh, MLA; Pinki Hazarika from Asian Confluence; Dr. Bremley WB Blah of Worldview Impact Foundation and FR Kharkongor, Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs respectively.

Ian Khongmen of Imagenation said, “ The month long programme was conceptualized with the objective of encouraging and driving the youths to be agents of positive change. We believe that such  unique event will be a catalyst that will inspire and facilitate positive thinking amongst the youth in Meghalaya.”

The programme on Wednesday will also include some entertainment besides the awards. Cash awards of Rs 20,000/- each and certificates to the winners will be awarded by Meghalaya minister of sports & youth affairs Zenith M. Sangma.- By Our Reporter
