Three militants nabbed

SHILLONG, JAN 30: Three hardcore United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) militants were arrested from a remote village in Assam, police said.  Acting on a tip off, the Balijana based troops of Red Horns Division and Goalpara police conducted a joint operation and nabbed three UALA cadres near Mechelkhowa village, police informed.

Two 12 bore country made rifles, ammunition, two mobile phones and some cash were recovered from the militants.  While the names are yet to be disclosed, police however informed while two of the apprehended militants belong to North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya and one belongs to Goalpara district.

Police alleged UALA and GNLA have been carrying out heavy extortion from the local population residing along Assam-Meghalaya border.  Meanwhile, police said that the security forces have been carrying out operations against these militant groups actively so that population does not suffer and peace is maintained in the area.- By Our Reporter
