Trader set on fire, rushed to hospital

IMG_3053Shillong, October 9:  Even as the conglomerate of pro-ILP ngos have suspended their agitation from October 10 to October 16 because of the festive season, miscreants are still having a field day when on a broad-daylight on Wednesday afternoon  a person entered a shop in Motphran and poured petrol on the owner and set him on fire.

This shocking incident took place at around 12.20 on Wednesday afternoon when the person entered the Meghalaya Machineries shop and poured petrol on its owner Vikash Nandwal  and then lighted fire.

IMG_3027Nandwal was immediately rushed to Nazareth hospital for treatment. It is reported that he has received fifty percent burn injuries from abdomen upwards.Later, he was shifted to Guwhati for treatment as the city hospital adviced the family to do so.

The act may be considered bold as it is learnt that the incident took place just 100 meters away from a police patrolling party.

Eyewitness said that they saw that the fire had also engulfed the shops. The incident took place when Motphran is usually was crowded.

As the report of arson reached the ears of police, senior police officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The incident has sent shockwave. Security was immediately beefed up in and around Motphran and Police Bazaar areas. – By Our Reporter
