TURA, OCT 15: A unique and innovative programme called “Global Hand Washing Day” was observed on Wednesday at Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Tura.

This unique programme was chaired by the school’s principal and West Garo hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi graced the occasion as chief guest of the programme.

The hand washing technique was demonstrated to the students by the Bakshi himself along with a message of cleanliness drawn from an experience in the life of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. Ten students also volunteered to demonstrate the technique along with the teachers of the school.

A total of 20 numbers of liquid hand wash was distributed to the school to be used by the students and staffs. Bakshi also sanctioned funds from the Chief Minister Youth Development Schemes for cleanliness drives and requested the school to form the Green Clubs in the school.

More than a thousand students along with the teachers, staff of the school participated in the event along with the District Coordinator, NBA, West Garo Hills, Tura.

The national anthem was sung in the end to wind up the programme. The event has been successful in promoting the message of health, hygiene and sanitation in the backdrop of Global Hand Wash Day and is a signature campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India Campaign) and Chief Minister’s Youth for Green programme.- From Our Correspondent
