SHILLONG, JAN 24: The Tura Winter Festival which began with the celebration of Meghalaya Day was formally inaugurated today at Dikki Bandi Stadium, Dakopgre, Tura organized by the West Garo Hills, District Administration, Tura.

It may be mentioned that the festival aims to create a platform to the youth of the region to showcase their multi-faced talents and also to provide opportunity to display their creativity with dance, music and cultural extravaganza.

While addressing the gathering on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Ram Singh said that the festival had to be postponed to January due to tight schedule and looks forward to the maximum participation of the people especially youth of the region in the festival. He said that the festival would give an opportunity for the people to come together and socialize meaningfully.

The other highlights of the festival include Miss Garo Hills Beauty Pageant, Fashion Show and Live Concert by Underground Authority from Kolkatta who will be performing for the first time in Garo Hills and Gravity from Guwahati and will conclude with a rock show featuring Richrocker, Suicide Notes and Eye2Eye. It may be mentioned that the Underground Authority were the Finalist in the Country’s premier reality show “India’s Got Talent-Season 2” and winner of International Hornbill Festival, Nagaland.

Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Dadenggre Sub-Division, R K Chitturi, Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills, Dr. M G R Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, M T Sangma, Extra Assistant Commissioners, West Garo Hills, Officials of the District were among others present at the festival.
