Two days Garo bandh

SHILLONG, AUG 6: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) of western zone (north) has called for two days dusk to dawn bandh on August 12 and 13. The bandh has been called to pressurize the government to reinstate former Selsella BDO Albert G Momin who was replaced by Dr Roy few months ago.

GSU president western zone (north)Rupa Marak informed on Tuesday that the bandh will begin from 5 am to 5 pm in these two days.

Marak told this website, “We have decided to intensify the agitation before August 15 since we expect the chief minister to be here for Independence Day celebrations.

Reacting to a query such bandh inevitably affects the people, Marak defended by saying, “We are forced to call for agitations and if we don’t do anything the government will never listen to our demand.”

Marak informed that the decision to resort to agitation was during the meeting of GSU Monday evening.  He said, “We were scheduled to call for agitations but people requested us to extend it since the Eid will be celebrated later this week.”

The GSU leader informed that people of the area including non-tribal are cooperating with the unions. The proposed bandh will affect the Daddengre sub division including national highway 51. –By Our Reporter
