Doctors threaten patient, arrested

docSHILLONG, JULY 20: In what could only be described as weird, two government doctors attached with the Shillong Civil hospital were arrested when they threatened an outpatient when the latter refused to be admitted in the hospital early Monday morning.

The two government doctors-Dr Willing Pde and Dr Kevin ZM Sangma- were arrested on Monday after the outpatient Pynshailang Kurbah  filed an FIR alleging that the doctors threatened him.

Police immediately acted on the FIR and arrested the two doctors and were produced in the court. Both of them have been remanded to three days police custody.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 12.30 am on Monday when Kurbah who stays in Paltan Bazar visited the Shillong Civil Hospital for medical checkup for minor ailment.

After examining the patient, the doctors who were on night duty suggested that he should be admitted.

But  Kurbah refused to get himself admitted in the hospital. To the horror of the patient the doctors allegedly under the influence of alcohol threatened to assault him.

“We have registered a case and has arrested the two doctors,” SP (City) Vivek Syiem said.

Syiem also informed that beside threatening the patient, the two doctors also threatened the police personnel from the police booth attached to  the Civil hospital when they tried to intervene.

The doctors were produced before court after a medical checkup on them was done at NEIGHRIMS.

Did anybody asked if the patient was also under the influence of alcohol?? What about the police personnel at civil hospital?? Nobody tested them!! Why wasn’t the hospital incharge informed of the incident at night?? Why did the police waited till morning to act?? And some newspapers quoted that the patient sustained injuries due to a fall at home. He could have easily blamed the doctors for inflicting the injuries. Why can’t everyone look at the facts first and then open their mouth. Did anyone asked the doctors what they had to say regarding the situation?? Why are newspapers just publishing one side of the story?? And why is a different story being given in different newspapers. In one paper the patient alledged that the doctors tried to admit him without examining him while in one it was given that after examining the patient the doctor advised admission. So why different stories are being published. It surely implies that the patient who narrated the events is a big liar. And many a times people including police are under the influence of alcohol so why isnt such things brought to the notice. Where are the ngos that time??
