GNLA militants killed in an encounter

SHILLONG, APR 13: Two Garo National Liberation Council (GNLA) militants were shot dead during an encounter between the SWAT and COBRA teams early on Saturday morning in Koksi Nengsat village under Sonsak, which is about thirty-two kilometers away from East Garo hills district headquarter Williamnagar. Three other GNLA militants fled away leaving behind weapons and ammunitions.

The two GNLA militants were killed when the SWAT and COBRA commandos raided the Koksi village suspecting that the militants had camped there. As soon as the commandos belonging to the Meghalaya police and the CRPF raided the village, the militants tried to flee and also open fire. In the firings that ensued, the two militants were killed.

It is suspected that beside the two, there were three others who somehow managed to escape during the operation.

The commandos combed the area and recovered one AK rifle with three magazines, one 7.5 pistol six cartridges, three wireless sets, four gelatin sticks, fifty detonators, safety fuse wire, two mobile phones, four mobile chargers, one AC adapter, four SIM cards, two wrist watches, three earphones, one rifle pull through, one rifle sling and one ammunition pouch.

The commandos have launched a massive operation in the nearby villages to nab the militants who managed to flee. The two militants who died on the spot are yet to be identified. – By Our Reporter
