Two killed for witchcraft

SHILLONG, MAY 26: Two persons in Umkyrpong village in East Khasi hills district were killed on Sunday by villagers from another village alleging that they were practicing witchcraft. The villagers also assaulted and injured a twenty seven year old girl who has been admitted in the nearby health center.

Six people led a group of villagers at Umkyrpong village armed with lethal weapons who stormed the house of Desment Salahe (43) and murdered her and her brother Nes Salahe (45) alleging them of practicing witchcraft.

Police said the angry villagers also assaulted the daughter of Desment, Riba Salahe (27) who was seriously injured and admitted to a nearby health centre. According to the police, the villagers who attacked the family are from Pala Kseh village.

An FIR has been  lodged with the police the names of the six people who instigated the villagers have been given to the police. The six people who led the villagers have been identified as Shngain Lamare, Marbud Iakai, Boin Paslein, Loin Paslein, Sen Paslein and Bai Paslein.

Police are yet to arrest the six. The police, however, said they are investigation into the incident.- By Our Reporter
