Two KSU members, driver arrested for murder and assault on labourers

Shillong, Nov 22: Two leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and a cab driver were arrested for their involvement in murder and abducting of the construction labourers in Mawiong recently.

Speaking to reporters, Additional Superintendent of Police (crime) Vivek Syiem said that the arrested were identified as KSU-Mawiong unit vice president Banker Nongkseh (21) alias ‘Heprit’, KSU Nongkwar unit finance secretary Anthony Warbah alias ‘Bahhep’ and driver T Marngar.

Two more members of the KSU Mawiong unit president Damuyan Skhemiew and Nongkwar unit general secretary Wansit Thangkhiew are yet to be arrested, Syiem said.

On November 20, in the name of conducting checking on influx, the members of the union using a local taxi kidnapped and brutally beat up  three construction workers after they failed to produced documents. Out of the three, Prasanta Dehka from Dubri, Assam died on the spot and Dekanta Bania was seriously injured and admitted to Nongpoh hospital, Syiem informed while adding that another labourer Anand Hajong from Balat is still untraceable.

Syiem  said, “We have seized the stone plunged at the victims and taxi (ML 05J 3739) used for abducting them. Syiem informed that cases of kidnapping, assault, dacoity and murder have been registered against them and the accused have been remanded to six days police custody. – By Our Reporter
