Tynsong asks UDP not to be scared of President’s Rule if NPP is damaging to the state

SHILLONG, MAY 30: National People’s Party (NPP) leader and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday asked the United Democratic Party (UDP) not to be scared of President’s Rule if they so think that the National People’s Party-led government is damaging for the state.

Speaking to media persons, Tynsong said that few leaders of the UDP had stated that the damage is more than the constructive programme under the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government led by Conrad K Sangma but they are scared to withdraw support because President’s rule may be imposed in the state.

“My personal opinion is very clear, if you (UDP) feel that the NPP led government keeps damaging the interest of the state, why should you be scared of the President’s rule? Why should we be scared of the president’s rule, where is the threat because even the President’s rule is according to the Constitution of India, that is my question,” he said.

Stating that he has nothing to say on the allegations made by the MDA partners, Tynsong said because whatever decisions taken by the government for the interest of the state have been consented by the two important platforms – MDA members and coordination committee. These are the two platforms where the MDA partners used to discuss issues and policies of the government.

On the coalition partners trying to push all the blame to the NPP ahead of 2023 polls, the deputy chief minister maintained that his party does not need to tackle or have sleepless nights on the matter.

“This is because for almost four and half years we were together, we were united and whatever decisions taken we did it unanimously and now just because the election is about 7-8 months from now, again leaders of the UDP they talk this or that or BJP leaders they talk this and that, ultimately we will leave it to the wisdom of the voters,” he said.

“Whatever blame you are making, as for me and Conrad, we are ready to accept it and take the blame for what to do. But I am telling you any decisions we have taken or any programme that we have moved forward, we never bypass anybody as consultation was already there so we did it,” he added.

Further, Tynsong said the NPP cannot help it if the coalition partners are unhappy and say that the party is not good as “we are ready now to go back to the people of the state and let us see if the people of the state will repose their faith in the NPP.”

He informed that the party is already geared up preparing for the 2023 by going to each and every village and locality to make people understand on the various issues.

“We will also go with the agenda of the party for the interest and development of the people and the state of Meghalaya and to also urge the people to vote in favour of the NPP,” Tynsong added.
