TURA, SEPT 27: The United A’chik Army (UALA) on Sunday appealed the state government to speed up talks with the outfit. The outfit also appealed to militants, who have abducted central intelligence official Vikash Kumar Singh, whose whereabouts is still not known to release him.
In a release issued today, UALA has urged to government to expedite talks.
“We appeal to the state government to speed up the ongoing talks between us and the state. This appeal is to ensure there are no further misunderstandings as well as to restore peace within Garo hills”, said the outfit’s chairman, Chiindik Marak, in a release.
In June the outfit had talks with top government officials. “We were given 10 days by the government for signing an agreement, which has not materialized”, he added.
“We believe that once we officially sign the agreement, we and the state government will be able to uphold and follow necessary ground rules. We can jointly work out state related requirements (including rehabilitations, stipends, packages) besides proper liaison offices and camps be arranged. This would send the right message to other organizations alike that are still involved in various violent activities to come over-ground and participate in peace talks”, Chiindik added.
The outfit also appealed to the abductors of IB personnel Vikash Kumar Singh seeking his safe and unconditional release. “We appeal to the organization responsible for the kidnapping of Singh and the trader Kamal Saha from Panda Reserve to immediately release them unharmed. We appeal on humanitarian grounds and in the best interest of the people of Garo Hills for their release”, said Chiindik.-From Our Correspondent
