UDP announces 1st list

 

SHILLONG, OCT 16: The United Democratic Party (UDP) today announced its first list of ten candidates for the 2019 elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

The names cleared by the central executive committee (CEC) during a meeting held here on Tuesday include two former legislators – Embhalang Syiemlieh from Mawlai and Titosstarwell Chyne from Sohra.

The list also include four sitting MDCs – Teinwell Dkhar, who is the incumbent parliamentary party leader, from Shella, Donkupar Sumer from Umsning, Rona Khymdeit from Nongpoh and Ricky Shullai, who recently joined the UDP, from Laban-Mawprem.

“We have decided to announce our first list of candidates who will be contesting in the upcoming MDC elections in Khasi Hills region,” UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh told reporters after the meeting.

He informed that the final list of candidates for the 29-member KHADC will be announced on October 31.

The other candidates were S Basing Roy Kharshandi from Nongthymmai, Olan Sunn from Mawsynram, Mcdonald Kharkongor from Mylliem and Khamshai Lyngdoh from Mawphlang-Diengiei.

With regards to the elections to the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), the general secretary informed that the party has asked the district units to speed up in submitting their recommendation.

He said that a manifesto committee to be headed by the party’s senior working president Bindo M Lanong was also constituted during the meeting.

Ruling out any pre-poll alliance with the oldest regional party – Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) ahead of the MDC elections, the UDP leader however said that there will be understanding between the two parties at the constituency level.

Meanwhile, he informed that the next central executive committee meeting of the party will be held in North Garo Hills District on October 27.
