UDP names 6 more candidates

SHILLONG, JAN 28: The United Democratic Party today announced its sixth list of six candidates for the upcoming elections to the two autonomous district councils slated to be held on February 27.

The  list was approved by the state election committee of the party which held its meeting here on Monday.

The candidates include sitting MDC from Mairang Equator Nongrang, former BJP state youth wing president Egenstar Kurkalang from Nongkrem, Hopingstone Bareh – Sutnga Narwan, Krison Langstang – Sumer, Finelynes Bareh – Rymbai-Khliehriat and FD Ramsiej – Umroi.

The party has so far announced 25 candidates for the elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and 22 in Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

Meanwhile, the UDP has also decided to work with its alliance partner Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) by not fielding candidates from two seats which include Ramrai and Mawshynrut.

“We have decided not to set up candidates in the two seats after there has been a mutual understanding with the HSPDP,” party general secretary Jemino Mawthoh told reporters.
