SHILLONG, DEC 2: With Christmas around the corner, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the withdrawal cash limited from the banks so that the Christian community in the state and other parts of the country and celebrated this festive occasion without any financial hindrance.

In a letter submitted to Modi on Friday, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said, “We request your good office to kindly consider this plea, which will only strengthen the support for your progressive programs.”

The letter said that the present strictures by union government needs to be relaxed so as to ease cash dispensation of cash from banks and also an increase on the withdrawal limit, which in turn, will  not deprive the citizenry from ending this year on an otherwise blossoming note.

He said the centre should intervene at this juncture on account of the festive season that is being widely celebrated and more so for Christian populated states like ours where in the spirit of giving and forgiving, expenses are high to meet age old customs of celebration and gifting.

Stating that the demonetization has been an exercise that has evoke varied attention, he said the UDP as a party has welcomed the move but feel that the marginalized who failed to party with the Jan Dhan Yojana, for reasons of lack of information because of the remoteness of their location and even for those who failed on justifiable account, it has been a harrowing experience.
