SHILLONG, MAR 5: Basking under Tuesday sunny weather, Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary administered the oath of office and secrecy as the state’s chief minister to Mukul Sangma. This is the second inning of Sangma as chief minister of the state.

For the first time the oath of office and secrecy to the chief minister was administered in the lush green lawn of the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. Hundreds of guests came to witness the swearing in ceremony of Mukul Sangma who became the twenty-sixth chief ministers of the state.

However the swearing in ceremony of cabinet ministers will have to wait as Sangma is waiting for the approval of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi to the list he had submitted.

Most of the Congress legislators and leaders were also present. However former chief minister Salseng C Marak and minister in the outgoing cabinet RC Laloo could not make it to the Raj Bhavan as they reportedly got stuck in the traffic jam.

Besides the Congress legislators, AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, Shillong Lok Sabha MP Vincent Pala, NPP legislator James Sangma, UDP president and former chief minister Donkupar Roy and former Meghalaya assembly speaker and MP PR Kyndiah were also present.

Immediately after being sworn in as the chief minister, Sangma told reporters that the Congress led coalition government will priorities on all the issues that are reflected in the Congress party manifesto. He assured that his government will try and fulfil all the promises it made during the election.

Answering a query on whether he will be the third chief ministers of the state to complete a full term or he foresees danger to his continuance in the top post, Sangma said, “When the focus of the government is development centric, there will be no room for instability.”- By Our Reporter
