SHILLONG, JAN 7: Three out of the five Congress legislators who were denied party ticket are contesting the election as Independent even as Abdus Saleh said if his supporters want him then he will also contest as independent with the sole exception of Nehlang Lyngdoh who has decided to hang his boots.

The most shocked appears to be the young Meghalaya Community and Rural Development (C&RD) minister Saleng Sangma who said he was literally “shocked and dejected” that the party has denied him the ticket. He told this reporter, “I had trusted chief minister Mukul Sangma, had  I know that he would play politics I would have gone to Delhi and lobbied.”

Even as he expressed shock over non- allocation of party ticket to him, Saleng Sangma said,  “I had never expected that chief minister will play such a politics, any way I have learnt a lot from this game and I have politically matured now.”

Another young Congress legislator Samuel Sangma said he had first contested the MDC election as an independent so he will now contest as independent in the forthcoming assembly elections. Exuding confidence he said he will win even as independent.  As hee was instrumental in building up Congress in Baghmara, his followers have decided to resign from Congress en mass.

SW Lyngdoh, on the other hand, has already that he will be contesting the election as an Independent.
But coal baron Nahleng Lyngdoh said  he will not contest the election which he claims he had decided two years ago.

Even as he was denied the Congress ticket, Abdul Saleh continues to say that he has full confidence in chief minister Mukul Sangma leadership but said he is yet to decide whether to contest election or not and much depended on his supporters. He said, “  If my people wants then I will contest as independent.” –By Our Reporter
