Uniform ticket rates for Khasi films

SHILLONG, MAY 18: The state government will be fixing a ‘uniform ticket rate’ for Khasi and Jaintia films to give a fillip to the film making industry in the state. National award winning Khasi feature film “Onaatah” – of the earth-actor Merlvin Mukhim informed that they told about this government decision.

He said ticket rate government proposed to fix will be Rs 80, Rs 50 and Rs 40 for the Khasi and Jaintia films from the present rate which is at Rs 60 and Rs 40. The decision is the outcome of the several meetings held between the state governmet and film producers from the state.

Meanwhile, it’s house-full like situation in the two cinemas in the city – Biju and Anjalee- since the release of the movie Onaatah last week. Over 10,000 viewers and movie lovers have watched the film so far according to the number of tickets sold in the two cinemas.

Expressing gratitude to the public for their overwhelming support, Mukhim said, “The way people are responding is so encouraging and we expect other Khasi and Jaintia films will get the same support.” He also announced that showing of the film have been extended for another week.

On black ticketing, the actor admitting that the issue is there but it is reduced with the introduction of computerizes tickets.

When asked, lead actress of the film Sweety Pala said, “Quality is what makes a film successful. Film makers have to update themselves from a technological point of view.”

Onaatah is the third film where Sweety and Merlvin have been seen working together after ‘Dei Maphi’ and ‘Meshwa and Melody’.

However both actors admitted the role and character in Onaatah was the most challenging. For Merlvin, Onaatah is his 10th movie which includes a Bollywood film, which yet to be released and two Bengalee films.

Onaatah is the second award winning movie for Merlvin after ‘Ri’ – Homeland of the uncertainty.-By Our Reporter
