Blockade: Vehicles torched

SHILLONG, SEPT 5: Ri-Bhoi police arrested three people from different parts of the district for torching vehicles on Wednesday night road blockade called by the ngos to demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit and also detained nine others on suspicion.

Miscreants on Wednesday night- which was the first day of the three days night road blockade-, burnt down one mini truck which was halted at Killing. However, the truck was partially burnt in the incident.

Miscreants also burnt down a  jeep of MeECL in the offices of MeECL at Byrnihat. Another truck at Umling was also set on fire and it was completely damaged.

Police said that the police arrested three persons red-handed while they were burning down vehicles.  The police has also strengthened the security along the national highway  40 that connects Shillong with the rest of the country.

In Shillong, the police also arrested a sixteen years old boy when miscreants assaulted a chicken seller Babuh Phawa at Polo bazaar at around 9.30 pm on Wednesday when the road blockade just started.

Later police also arrested one Serababel Swett after they chased some KSU members who pelted stones on the police party when the latter tried to remove stones laid across a road in front of the Catholic church in Mawkhar. -By Our Reporter
