SHILLONG, FEB 21: Ahead of Monday’s district councils election, Meghalaya acting chief secretary PBO Warjri urged the officials who have been deputed for election duty to perform their election duties with confidence, sincerity and dedication during the review meeting held on the poll preparedness of the 25 Mawkyrwat and 26- Langrin constituencies held at Mawkyrwat on Friday.

Accompanied by  the district council affairs department commissioner & secretary Jopthiaw Lyngdoh, Meghalaya additional DGP ( Law and Order)  YC Modi, DIG eastern range A Sunn, Warjri visited the South West Khasi hills district to review the preparedness of the district administration to conduct the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Election for 25-Mawkyrwat and 26- Langrin constituencies.

The review meeting was held at the Multipurpose Hall, DC. Complex at  Mawkyrwat and was attended by sector officers, zonal magistrates and police officers of the district. Warjri also deliberated at length on the objectives of democracy and stressed upon the need to hold free and fair election.

While underlining the roles and functions of the government machineries in conducting election, Jopthiaw Lyngdoh said that officials empowered with magisterial powers to be knowledgeable with the law of the land and avoid misusing their powers while discharging their duties.

The members were also satisfied with action plan taken up by the district administration for the ensuing election, District Election Officer R Lyngdoh informed. Addl DGP YC Modi, and DIG  A.Sunn spoke on the aspect of law and order and the strength of the police personnel deployed for election duty in the district.- By Our Reporter
