SHILLONG, FEB 15: A woman has accused a National People’s Party (NPP) leader and incumbent chief of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Madonbai Rymbai for allegedly attempting to rape her in New Delhi, three months ago.

The first information report (FIR) was filed at the Jowai Police Station in West Jaintia Hills District on February 12 and the same has been forwarded to the Delhi police for necessary action.

The allegations against Rymbai, a sitting MDC of Sohmynting-Khliehtyrshi constituency, also came just ahead of the district council polls, which are slated to be held on February 27.

When contacted, West Jaintia Hills District police chief Lakador Syiem confirmed receiving of the FIR filed against the JHADC chief executive member (CEM).

“The victim came and submitted an FIR to us. The incident had happened three months back and the place of occurrence is in New Delhi. Since it is a case related to crime against women, we have accepted the FIR,” Syiem said.

“We have accordingly sent the FIR to the Delhi Police Commissioner who has also acknowledged receiving the FIR,” he said.

Asked, the SP however refused to disclose further details and said, “Because the investigation will be done by the Delhi police, we are here to assist them as and when they require our help that is all I can tell you.”

He said the following day (February 13) the victim came again to the police station and requested that she would like to withdraw her FIR.

“Therefore the FIR has not been withdrawn because the place of occurrence is under the jurisdiction of the Delhi police,” Syiem said adding “Since it is case of crime against women, the victim has to go to the court if she wants to withdraw the case.”

Sources informed that the incident had taken place at Claridge Hotel in New Delhi on November 28.  Sources further said that the victim in her FIR had informed that the CEM had apologized and requested her not to leak the incident by promising her a job in the district council.
