Inclusive learning

SHILLONG, JULY 10: A two days Regional Workshop on Inclusive Education (IE) concluded on Wednesday at the Siloam Retreat Centre, Umniuh khwan, Shillong with an aim to formulate strategies for support and inclusion  for Children With Special Need (CWSN) in schools, while providing them equitable quality education.

The workshop was organized by the Department of School Education & Literacy and Union Ministry of Human Resource Development in collaboration with State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya (SSA).

The theme of the workshop was “To Develop State-wise Inclusive Education Learning Outcomes Implementation Action Plan for 2013-14” with the following objectives:-

1.      To critically review the present status of Inclusive Education.

2.      To consolidate the existing academic support structures and IE activities for enrollments, retention and enhanced learning outcomes of CWSN.

3.      To consolidate the Management Information System on CWSN.

4.      To build convergence and synergy between the Government Departments/ Institutions and Civil Society.

Around seventy participants from all the seven  north eastern states including Sikkim participated in the workshop. Meghalaya principal secretary of education PS Thangkhiew, who was the chief guest stressed on the importance of collating accurate data on number of CWSN and also emphasizing on the need to enhance engagement and collaboration with ngos and civil societies working in the area.

It is expected that deliberations in the workshop will provide a meaningful and useful input for developing state-wise IE action plan and also to formulate appropriate monitoring systems to achieve the desired targets as per PAB (Project Approval Board) approvals.- By Our Reporter
