World AIDS Day observed

SHILLONG, NOV 30: The Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) organized a series of programme as part of the World AIDS Day at U Soso Tham auditorium on Saturday. Meghalaya transport department principal secretary T Tsering, who graced the occasion, said that the HIV positive patients should not be discriminated and must be treated like a normal patient.

Stressing that the persons infected with AIDS have every right to be treated as normal and derive all benefits due to them , Tsering, however, urged the youths to be careful in their relationships and asked them to be aware of the HIV Aids infection

Tsering said people can suggest what acts should be classified as discrimination towards the patients and accordingly measures should be taken to eliminate such remedies from the society.

The theme of this year World AIDS Day observation is  “Zero AIDS Related Death, Zero New Infections & Zero Discrimination.”

Later, a flash mob was also conducted at the venue by the  youths to spread message against the spread of HIV AIDS followed by a motor  cycle rally which was flagged off by  HSPDP chief Hopingstone Lyngdoh

As a part of the World AIDS Day, an interactive session was also organised for journalists of Shillong where Assam based journalist Naba Thakuria briefed the media about HIV AIDS and technicalities of reporting while reporting on the sensitive issue of HIV AIDSs and HIV infected patients.- By Our Reporter
