Yadav tasted Mawphlang’s water, eat Kwai

SHILLONG, FEB 1:Union minister of state for drinking water and sanitation Ram Kripal Yadav not only tasted the water pumped from Mawphlang  dam and remarked the water tasted “sweet”, but he also eat Kwai offered by Nonglum village resident Saralin Wankhar when he visited her tin-roofed residence on Sunday.

Yadav visited Mawphlang village and not only inspected the Mawphlang water source but also made it a point to see the condition of toilets and kitchens of some houses and entered into conversation with the house owners.

During Yadav’s  visit government officials accompanied him  He also informed that the union government has enhanced the financial package, under the Total Sanitation Scheme for the construction of a toilet and to provide safe drinking water from Rs.3,000 to Rs.12,000.

When Yadav visited Saralin Wankhar house, she could not believe that a union minister visited her residence and interacted with her son.

As is the custom with the Khasi, Wankhar offered the minister Kwai which he took without any hesitation. Then he did the unthinkable for a union minister, he inspected Wankhar’s  kitchen and toilet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s had directed that his ministers should have first-hand knowledge about people’s problems and Yadav was fulfilling it. However, the minister felt that Meghalaya needs to progress further and be in the fast lane of development.

Wankhar, on the other hand, is shell-shocked that a union minister came visiting to her house and said “I did not expect a union minister to come to my house and interact with us.”

Yadav was briefed about the problem of the village by the villagers he interacted and promised that he will ensure development reaches the village. He promised to put the villagers’ problems before the prime minister and assured he will be visiting again.- By Our Reporter
