SHILLONG, JULY 14: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) today demanded immediate suspension of a nominated IAS officer Himalaya Muktan Shangpliang while also asking the Congress led government to initiate CBI probe into his activities including misusing of government funds and schemes.

“We have demanded that he (Shangpliang) should be immediately put under suspension,” BJYM president Egenstar Kurkalang told reporters after a meeting with the chief secretary Y Tsering here on Friday.

He said that Shangpliang has violated the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968 by participating in a recent meeting of the ruling Congress party. “He even speaks in favour of the Congress which he cannot as a government servant,” Kurkalang said.

A video clip of the meeting which also went viral in social media also highlighted Shangpliang taking part in the Congress meeting held at Lawbah village on July 8.

At the same time, the BJYM chief said that they are also demanding inquiry by the central bureau of investigation (CBI) into the activities of the nominated IAS officer.

“The government should also initiate a CBI probe because if a government servant is actively participating in political activity we have every reason to doubt that there is misuse of government schemes through indirect influence on the people,” he said.

Shangpliang is holding the posts of Director of Social Welfare Department, Secretary of General Administration Department (GAD), Secretary to the Chief Adviser to the Government and Mission Director, National Health Mission and Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme.

“We have also received complaints that there are many schemes under the social welfare department which are lying pending. Therefore there is possibility that these schemes are also misused by him,” Kurkalang said.
