‘Appoint regular NEHU VC’

SHILLONG, SEPT 18: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHU-SU) has demanded immediate appointment of a regular NEHU Vice Chancellor to stop the decline of academic and administrative streams in the university.

“We want a person of proven administrative and academic capabilities to be appointed as the VC and should he/she should work in the NEHU without any sense of fear or favour,” NEHUSU vice president Shiningstar Kharbihkhiew said in a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, who is also the university’s visitor.

Kharbihkhiew  said, “A person who is not involved in the party-politics of NEHU before getting appointed as the VC will be a better choice because the last few VC all from NEHU have not taken any tough decision  to arrest the decline in the academic and administrative environment of the university.”

According to Kharbihkhiew  these points are important because of deteriorating law and order situation in the university campus, which almost paralysed functioning of the university administration and also the growing no work culture among the staff and teachers.

Kharbihkhiew said that the results of various exams conducted by the university are never declared on time/as per NEHU calendar, the disbursement of stipend and fellowships, water and electricity problems in the departments and hostels are just few of the problems hampering the future of the students.

Stating that the interests of the students have suffered a lot, Kharbihkhiew said the union urged the centre to do the needful in the decision making for the selection and appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor at the earliest.- By Our Reporter
