SHILLONG, SEPT 15: Muslim communities residing in Shillong today holds a protest march against the atrocities and persecution of Rohingya Muslim of Myanmar.

Expressing solidarity towards the Rohingiya Muslims, hundreds of Muslim community people of Shillong march into the street of Shillong to demonstrate solidarity toward oppressed, prosecuted, and discriminated Rohingya ethnic minority in Myanmar.

Urging Centre not to deport Rohingya  Muslims back to Myanmar, Md. Zaki, Member of protest rally for Rohingya Muslim said, “ We appeal to central Government to stop deportation of Rohingya who are there in India which is about 40,000 because if our govt send them to Myanmar that is the state of prosecution than there will be risk of mass killing so we request our central govt to stop deputation plan”.

Myanmar is facing growing condemnation from the Muslim world over its failure to halt the violence directed toward the minority Rohingya ethnic group, amid protests across the globe.

“We have taken out this protest march against this atrocities that is happening in Myanmar Rohingya and against the ethnic cleansing and mass killing of Rohingyian minority,” he added.

“This is a mark of protest and further we want to appeal to the Myanmar Govt to deescalate army from there and establish peace for the sake of humanity,” Md. Zaki said.

An estimated 400,000 ethnic Rohingya Muslims have fled the strife-torn Rakhine State in Myanmar, mainly to Bangladesh, since violence and discriminatory treatment increased in 2012.

A new wave of violence began in August after Rohingya militants attacked some police and military posts.

Muslims have been protesting since last month when the pro-Hindu government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a plan to deport some 40,000 Rohingya people across India, settled mostly in the cities of Mumbai, New Delhi and Hyderabad as well as in Jammu-Kashmir State.

Jammu and Kashmir alone has some 13,700 Rohingya Muslims, state government data shows, with their population increasing by more than 6,000 between 2008 and 2016.

Protesters complained that the deportation plan came despite the growing displacement of Rohingya in Myanmar.
