Police, people contact prog

SHILLONG, JAN 22: Meghalaya police will introduce the ‘People Contact Programme and Public Grievances Redressal (PCP&PGR), a first of its kind, in the seven police stations located in Shillong. The objective of this program is to gather feedback directly from the stakeholders on the delivery of police services.

“This program is aimed at creating an environment in the police stations where the public can directly interact with senior police officers detailed from the police headquarters, Shillong,” Meghalaya Inspector General of Police (IGP) GHP Raju said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Raju informed that as many as three additional director general rank officers, three IGP rank officers and one DIG rank officer are detailed by the Director General of Police (DGP) for this program.

According to Raju, the program initially will be introduced in the seven police stations of the Shillong city – Sadar Police Station, Laitmukhra Police Station, Madanriting Police Station, Rynjah Police Station, Laban Police Station, Mawlai Police Station and Lumdeingjri Police Station.

Informing that the officers would be available to the public from 10 am to 12 pm in the above police stations on January 25, Raju said that the public are requested to visit the police stations on the said date and time and bring their grievances to the notice of the senior police officer who would be available in the police station for redressing their grievances.

Raju said the public should bring to the notice of these senior police officers  their observations regarding police performance on various issues such as crime prevention, crime detection, traffic control and management, police behavior towards the public and any issues that may improve police service delivery to the public.- By Our Reporter
