Shillong, January 23: The breakaway faction of the ANVC styled as the ANVC (B) led by its chairman Rimpu Marak has been asked by the union and the state governments to furnish details about the strength of its cadres’ and arms inventory soon so the outfit can be part of the final settlement for peace which will be signed and executed soon.

A senior home department officials said that the ANVC(B) leader Rimpu R Marak has been communicated this message during the tripartite meeting held between the state, centre governments, the ANVC and ANVC(B) on Thursday.

Rimpu Marak has been accusing the state government of trying to sideline the ANVC(B) and its cadres from the peace process after signing of the the final text agreement with the state and  centre governmet last year.

The home department official also informed that the meeting took stock of the situation arising out of the settlement agreement for peace in the Garo Hills region and to ensure that a congenial climate is created before the final settlement is signed and executed.

The state government was represented home department principal secretary KS Kropha along with the Director General of Police (DGP) PJP Hanaman and the union government was represented by the Director for North East in the Ministry of Home Affairs JPN Singh.

During the three hours meeting the everyone were informed that the approved text of settlement agreement is at an advance stage of getting the centre’s approval and can be expected anytime.

The process of bringing peace in Garo hills started on January 5 last year even as the ANVC had signed a tri-partite Suspension of Operation agreement since 2004.

Representatives of both the centre and state governments have further directed the two organizations- ANVC and ANVC(B)- not create any atmosphere that could hinder the settlement but to bring in peace to the region. The home department official said, “The two organisations have mutually agreed to talk to each other to sort any problems that are likely to come up between the two outfits.”

Answering a query on the allegations made by the ANVC(B) from time to time that its cadres were hunted and treated with disdain by the police, the official said, “We have asked the ANVC(B) leader to provide a list of its cadres and the arms inventory for considering their positions as part of the final agreement.”

Rimpu Marak later informed the media that the ANVC(B) has over 130 cadres and that the list and the details of the cadres would be submitted to the concerned authorities.He also added that with regards to deposition of arms inventory, the outfit would do according to the procedures under law.- By Our Reporter
