Centre keen to setup Drama school in NE

SHILLONG, OCT 9:  The Committee on Government Assurances of Rajya Sabha  led by four sitting MPs on Friday said that the union government is proposing to set up regional centers of National School of Drama in the north east region, official sources said.

The Committee comprises of Husain Dalwai, an MP from Maharashtra, Dilipbhai Pandya of Gujarat, Md Nadimul Haque of West Bengal and Lal Sinh Vadodia of Gujarat held meeting with senior officials of the Meghalaya government led by chief secretary PBO Warjri in the city.

“The Committee has expressed keen interest of the centre to set up a National School of Drama in the north eastern region,” official sources said. The official however said, “The committee did not specify as to which state in the NE, the NSD would be set up.”

The meeting also discussed on the problems faced in construction of Hydel Power Projects, status of road projects and villages which are not covered under mobile telephone services.

It is also informed that the committee also held meeting with the National Highways Authority of India and Ministries of Power and Road Transport and Highways.

Meanwhile, the four MPs also visited Don Bosco Museum on Thursday.The MPs, as members of the Committee on Government Assurances, Rajya Sabha are on an official visit to Shillong.

The MPs were very amazed and astonishingly proud to see and tour the museum as one of the MPs remarked, “Excellent! Any visit to Shillong is incomplete without a visit to Don Bosco Museum!”

The museum is a major tourists’ attraction in the city that provides a glimpse of the rich and multi-cultural lifestyles of the indigenous peoples of north east India.- By Our Reporter
