SHILLONG, OCT 7: Police arrested twenty four years old Alanlas Kyllait in connection with the BSNL warehouse fire that completely gutted the godown late on Sunday night even as police said that it was a clear case of arson.
High police officials including Meghalaya DGP Peter Hanaman and East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang visited the site on Monday even as the BSNL officials were assessing the total cost of the damage.
According to the police the arrested one person is staying nearby to the warehouse.
Kharkrang told reporters that the incident is definitely a case or arson.He also felt that the BSNL should have taken some precautionary measures to keep the place secure where items worth crores of rupees were kept as people cannot expect police to be everywhere.
Since Durga Puja is nearing, Kharkhrang admitted that pressure would mount on the police to maintain law and order but he assured that the police would make all efforts to ensure a peaceful Durga Puja celebrations in the city and the district.- By Our Reporter
