11,000 new voters

SHILLONG, JAN 25: Over 11, 000 newly registered voters from across the East Khasi hills district took the voters’ pledge administered on the occasion of the National Voters’ Day celebration observed on Saturday.

“A total of 11, 488 newly registered voters as per the summary revision from over 644 polling stations in the district took the voters’ pledge administered by the booth level officers (BLOs) during the felicitation programmes organized in the different parts of the district,” Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal informed on Saturday.

In Shillong, Goyal administered the voters’ pledge to the district officers, BDOs, principal of colleges, campus ambassadors of different colleges, enumerators and staffs of the DC’s establishment at a formal programme held in the DC’s conference hall.

During the programme the message from V Sampath, Chief Election Commissioner, was displayed in audio-video footage, and audio-video song on NVD produced by Dalariti Nongpiur and her team was also released, besides giving away the prizes to the winners of different events and competitions organized by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Shillong for the run up to the National Voters Day, viz-Painting Competitions ,Senior & Junior category, On-air Quiz competition aired by Red FM 93.5,and Debate competitions etc.

The programme ended with release of “Dingkum”, traditional hot air balloons by Goyal.- By Our Reporter
