1600 cases registered against illegal coal transportation

 SHILLONG, SEP 14: A total of 199 cases relating to illegal extraction and a total of 1652 cases relating to illegal transportation of coal have been registered since the injunction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in 2014.

 

Out of the total cases registered, 1462 cases have been charge-sheeted, 242 cases have ended in final report and 147 cases are still pending investigation, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told the Assembly on Wednesday.

 

A total of 495 persons have been convicted since the ban by NGT prohibiting extraction and transportation of coal in the state, he said.

 

Stating that the police has also detected gold smuggling in the state, Rymbui said two separate incidents of gold smuggling have been detected and due to timely action of the police, the perpetrators of crime have been arrested and gold biscuits along with money have also been seized.

 

Gold biscuits weighing around 1200 grams have been seized and money around Rs 27 lakhs have also been seized.
