Stir hurting Sohra’s earning

SHILLONG, OCT 2: Worried over the frequent bandhs and night road blockades which are adversely  affecting  the Sohra residents who are dependent on tourists and tourism  for their livelihood, the Ka Synjuk Ka Khlieh Nongsynshar-Thain Sohra  (KSKKNTS) submitted a petition to local legislator TW Chyne and Shella constituency legislator Donkupar Roy not only complaining about the adverse affect of agitations on the livelihood of Sohra people but also suggested that an appeal should be made to the agitators to stop the agitation.

The organization general secretary ER Sawian said the agitation has seriously affected the residents of Sohra who are mostly dependent on tourism its allied activities. He said there is a drop in the inflow of tourists which is detrimental to the economic growth of  those families who live by it and daily wage earners.

Sawain also said appeal should be made to agitators to stop all their activities to create a conducive environment for inflow of tourists in this region as this is the peak season for tourism in the region.He informed that this is a season when most of the Sohra residents earn for the whole year  and if they are not able to earn now the families will suffer in the coming months and years.

Sawian also suggested that laws should protect development of tourism sector and promote policies and reforms of the government, which will enhance the economic development of the common man and the farmers.- By Our  Reporter
