2 days road blockade

SHILLONG,  FEB 17:   With the deadline for releasing its West Khasi hills uit president Arphul Karbani ending on Monday, the Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) has called for a two-day night road blockade to pressurise the government to release him. Kharbani is booked under MPDA.

The decision for calling the two days night road blockade  was taken on Monday,  HANM working president Nelson Kharbani informed adding that the blockade will cover the entire Khasi-Jaintia districts on February 20 and 21.

Kharbani also informed that the road blockade will be effective from 8 pm to 6am on both the days.

Arphul Kharbani was arrested on September 26, 2013 for his alleged involvement in torching the offices of the PWD, KHADI and Fisheries departments. The incidents took place during the office picketing called by them in West Khasi Hills demanding the removal of the Deputy Commissioner.

Kharbani is lodged at the Williamnagar district jail. HANM has threatened that if the MPDA imposed on Kharbani is not revoked it would intensify the agitations.- By Our Reporter
